TIS National: 131 450

TIS National is the Translating and Interpreting Service. It is run by the Australian Government. Call 131 450, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Say the language you need. TIS National connects you to an interpreter and the organisation you want to call.

At Centrelink and Medicare

Ask for an interpreter when you call or visit. Services Australia arranges interpreters for free.

Centrelink also has a phone line in other languages: 131 202.

At the doctor

Many GPs and specialists in private practice can get a free interpreter through TIS National for Medicare services. When you book, tell the clinic you need an interpreter and the language.

Pharmacies can also use free interpreters.

Government information in your language

Services Australia has information about Centrelink, Medicare and Child Support in many languages. You can read, listen to or watch it.

The Centrelink multilingual phone service is 131 202, Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. You talk to a staff member who speaks your language.

The Queensland Government has some web pages in other languages. If a page is not in your language, call 1800 512 451 and ask for an interpreter.
