JobSeeker Payment is for people looking for work. If you are sick or injured, you can ask for a temporary exemption from your mutual obligation requirements.
Your doctor fills in a Centrelink Medical Certificate (form SU415, or online). It must say what the injury is, how long it will last, and that you cannot work or take part in activities for at least 8 hours a week.
Keep meeting your requirements until Centrelink makes a decision. An exemption can last up to 24 months.
DSP is for people with a long-term condition that stops them working 15 hours or more a week. Medical and non-medical rules apply, including age, residence, income and assets.
If a family member cares for you, they may be able to get help.
