Claim Example #1 — Brianna

Location: Margate (QLD)
Date of incident: October 2024
Role: Heavy rigid concrete driver
Injuries: Soft-tissue injuries to elbow, wrist, ribs, back, leg and neck; swelling; anxiety and PTSD.

What happened: Brianna was walking through the yard back to her truck when another truck reversed and hit her from behind, throwing her to the ground. Someone yelled for the driver to stop. She has ongoing physical symptoms and was referred for psychological support after the incident.

Claim Example #2 — Georgia

Location: Sheppards Drive / Greenbank area (QLD)
Date of incident: August 2022
Role: Administration
Injuries: Whiplash to the neck; pain radiating through the right shoulder.

What happened: Georgia was driving with her son after collecting him from the airport when an oncoming vehicle looked set for a head-on collision. She took evasive action around a truck, but the other vehicle still hit the right-hand side of her car and also struck another vehicle. Police and ambulance attended; she was taken to hospital.

Claim Example #3 — Harley

Location: Fortitude Valley (QLD)
Date of incident: July 2025
Role: Retail / student
Injuries: Compound fracture and dislocation of the right thumb (surgery required).

What happened: Harley was leaving a nightclub when she slipped on a wet floor near the exit. She said there was no wet-floor warning signage. She fell and caught herself on her thumb, which was badly injured. She went to hospital and had surgery after a compound fracture and dislocation.

Claim Example #4 — Fiona

Location: Miami (QLD)
Date of incident: November 2025
Role: Manufacturing worker
Injuries: Head injury; sore neck; vision trouble; concussion; nausea; acute stress disorder.

What happened: Fiona was using an industrial pressing machine that had been faulty for months when the machine head swung back and she hit her head on the metal plate. She was given an ice pack at work, then caught public transport home and slept for about a day before seeing a doctor as her symptoms worsened. She says no incident report was filed at the time and her employer did not follow up.

What happened: Liz was driving when another vehicle went through a give-way without stopping and t-boned her car near a highway slip road. Police attended the scene.

Claim Example #6 — Nigel

Date of incident: May 2025
Role: Warehouse / store person
Injuries: L5/S1 disc injury with nerve root compression.

What happened: Nigel was sent alone to a client site and had to lift a toilet weighing about 46 kg without a lifting device. He felt pain while moving it, went to hospital, and later scans showed the disc injury. A specialist advised him not to return to that type of physical work.

What happened: Yogita was driving with passengers when another vehicle came through a give-way and hit the front right of her car. Airbags deployed. Ambulance and fire attended. She has not been able to return to work.

Claim Example #8 — Will

Location: Aura / Sunshine Coast area (QLD)
Date of incident: June 2024
Role: Metal roofer
Injuries: Torn subscapularis and bicep tendonitis; shortened bicep; two shoulder/bicep surgeries with further surgery planned for bone that is not fusing.

What happened: On a school building site, Will was carrying a long corrugated roof sheet with colleagues when his foot hit insulation on a beam and he slipped. The sheet stayed up as he fell/got up, making the movement awkward; he felt the shoulder tear. Prior football shoulder injury from years earlier had not been an issue for about a decade.

What happened: Viktoria was leaving her housing estate on the way to work when another vehicle rear-ended her car. Witnesses said the other vehicle had been weaving through traffic; it was later reported as stolen. Her car was written off. She has been off work on workers compensation for months while recovering.

Claim Example #12 — Pedro

What happened: Pedro was driving home from work on the M1 when traffic stopped. After he had been stationary for several seconds, another car hit him from behind at high speed, causing a multi-car pile-up. Police, ambulance and tow trucks attended. His car was written off. He has tried to keep working without taking time off.

Claim Example #16 — Arjen

Date of incident: February 2024
Role: HPE sports teacher
Injuries: Serious ankle injury — multiple ligaments repaired, tendon/cartilage damage, nerve damage; surgery after a long wait.

What happened: While running with students on a school oval, Arjen hit a rock hidden in long grass, twisting and breaking the ankle. Surgery was delayed about three months. Months off on workers compensation followed; full HPE duties could not be resumed, unpaid leave was denied, and resignation followed.

Claim Example #17 — Adrian
