Termination clauses and why they are really the most important part of the document when it comes to safety.

I have read dozens of client agreements where the law firm may to choose to terminate (at no fault of your own), and they can charge you for expenses, or for professional fees and expenses.

One prominent law firm states that if they go past Compulsory Conference (most don’t even know what that means), and lose, You owe them between $25,000 to $75,000. How is that No Win No Fee? It is not.

Most law firms includes similar wording to the effect, ‘if they no longer have no reasonable prospects of success’, they can terminate and charge you for expenses. How is that No Win No Fee? It is not.

There are some agreements which have multiple clauses in the termination section which lets them charge YOU for any multitude of reasons which are not your fault.
